Subject: Here's the click in for the modeling post.

Modelling should go back to the time when casual meant straight modelling, not watered down pro-am. Pro-am routines have turned into some kind of bad dancing with absolutely NO technique. If I see another child doing bad heel streches, which, by the way, any good dance teacher will tell you needs to be done from the thigh not the foot, I will scream!! I'm not sure of the name of the dance step where the child sticks their leg out and turns at the same time, but I've been around dancers long enough to know that your foot should be pointed. Oh, and what the heck happened to pointed toes and positioning your arms and fingers so that they are not just flapping around. A 5'4" thirteen year old SHOULD NOT be doing backtucks and walkovers on stage, in fact, NO ONE should be doing these moves as they are VERY DANGEROUS on the small area that most stages are. Swimwear should ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY be straight modelling ONLY!!! Do you people know how ridiculous your 2 and 3 yr. olds look doing "hip pops", and you all wonder why the general public think we are crazy. Oh and I have a couple of more complaints that has nothing (and everything) to do with modelling. 1) Swimwear should look like SWIMWEAR!! Stop already with the "themed" swimwears, they look like hipless, boobless Victoria Secret models (especially when you have a Christmas themed swimwear). 2) Stop with the props already!! I don't need to see a child jump out of a box, a chimmey or a birthday cake!!! They're children not burlesque dancers. Victoria Secret is not an insparation for four yr. olds!! Stop using them!!!

[> I agree with everything you said.. I teach gymnastics and some of the heel streches and tumbling just look awful. It is also dangerous to have some modeling coach teaching these things when they have no idea how to do it properly! -- Anonymous, 16:53:32 12/04/07 Tue [1]

my daughter loves to compete. She just turned 4. But money isn't something we have ALOT of so steady coaching is very difficult for us. in her age group are a few girls who's parents pull out all the stops and they see a coach several times a month. M daughter will never "model" at the level they do. We dont have the money or time for that serious of coaching. So it just makes it where, any pageant where are up against those few, we know we aren't going to have a real chance at winning. For a 4 yr old to be doin toe stretches and stuff like that on a tiny stage is not only rediculous expectations, it's not safe. Kids have terrible depth perception and haven't fully learned to use perifial vision(yes, I know it's spelled wrong. you get the idea). We are lucky that nothing has happened so far.

A child under 6 should be just that. A child under 6. Young ones are so funny and full of personality if you ever sit back and watch them. I can understand older girls doing more strict modeling, but the little ones? No, a 3yr old should go on stage being 3. Not some programed little girl-bot doing the same routine all the others are doing. Teach them a few cutsey things and leave it at that.

Then it cant be said that a certain coaches' kids are winning or are the style for the year. It's the kids' style, not some coaches

[> It would be SO nice if my 2 year old was expected to be a 2 year old on stage! She CANNOT compete against kids twice her age who can remember complex routines. And those "no modeling score" pageants - what a crock! C/I -- Anonymous, 11:20:03 02/03/08 Sun [1]

If there truly were no modeling score, then the "top model" kids would not always be the ones winning. There are some VERY beautiful children at nationals who just don't model as well as the big name kids. Funny how the big name kids win even the "no modeling" pageants. And, yes, I know the big name kids are gorgeous, but so are a lot of other kids there. From my experience in nationals, beauty modeling has not strayed so far afield as the other events. Pro-Am is not modeling at all. It is some strange mixture of modeling, dancing and gymnastics, with all of it done badly. And we just keep promoting it? Why?

[> How about a pageant where BEAUTY is the biggest percentage of the score? Take modeling down a notch and put it back behind beauty where it is supposed to be! -- Anonymous, 11:21:14 02/03/08 Sun [1]
