Subject: my daughter was 3rd runner up once at a huge state pageant. None of the other pageants could understand why I was excited about runner up. To me, my daughter scored better than the others in her group. There were like 30-something kids. SHE GOT 3RD RUNNER up. To me, she did awesome. So what someone got even better than her? That didn't lessen my child's accomplishments. To this day, I am still very proud of that and that trophy sits on the same shelf as her queen ones. c/i

I went to a pageant that awarded age division queen, overall age division and age division supreme. Well, there were only about 6kids in the group. That meant that half walked away with something. So the other 3 that got nothing felt bad. Most pageants have a smaller turn out so kids in a group with just a few where most walk away with something are going to see that "everyone else" got something and they didn't. Whereas one winner is one winner. All sports have just one winner. One team made the top of the playoffs. One girl wins the gold. Only in pageants is there white gold, yellow gold, platinum, silver and bronze. The gold is great but it gets it's value lessened by whatelse is given also.

Pageants should have one age division queen and an overall for the pageant. That's it. without all those extra titles, then that's less crowns and sashes to purchase lowering the director's cost.
