Subject: 38.1) Gosh this is a tough one. It’s one thing to know about the atrocities that go on in a prison, but another thing to know they are happening to someone you love. Knowing might make me a little less angry at the man…cuz yea I’d probably be angry not only at the system but at him too – if he wasn’t involved in the things he was involved in he wouldn’t be there, he’d still be with me. I know that’s not rational but there ya go. On the other hand, not knowing might help me keep my sanity. 38.2) Casey had become somewhat of a leader to this group of men…whether he wanted it or not, he’s just a natural. I think he knew they'd fare better as a group sticking together. If he wanted to keep their loyalty and support he had to prove himself in front of them. Besides he’s just that kind of guy, taking the punches to protect someone else. I felt like any one of those men could be counted on to have Casey’s back after this.
In reply to: Carla 's message, "Chapter 37: Zorba and Company Despite the deadly serious nature of his task, I found myself smiling at the image of Jamie as "Zorba, The Greek" in this chapter. Then I had a vision of Jamie in his get-up and Casey as the priest pulling off some scheme together and laughed out loud. Now, on to the questions." on 08:39:50 09/24/07 Mon

  • QUESTION for CINDY: The Toad seems to know Thrawny, even called him Alex, and Thrawny said the only people who knew him as Alex were Joan and Jamie, so isn't Jamie running a very big risk by involving Thrawny in the scene at The Club and then allowing the Toad to live after interrogation? It seems he's risking not only Thrawny's, but Joan's life as well. Another question: "Christ on a piece of toast" - where does that come from? Isn't that something Claire says as well? Is it a common phrase in the UK? (NT) -- Denise, 19:02:22 09/24/07 Mon
  • Hmm, I don't know that I recall Claire saying it, but I could be wrong. Casey says it from time to time though. Christ on a cracker is one I hear on tv now and again. Well I think the Toad calling him Alex is maybe an oversight on my part. As to endangering them, well it depends just how Jamie disposed of him after the evening's events. • I don't know the origin of the saying, but I heard 'Jesus Christ on a piece of toast' growing up. I wonder if older generations thought by adding the extra like 'piece of toast' made it less of a blaspheme (sp? word?) *BG* (NT) -- Marilyn (), 20:08:14 09/24/07 Mon
  • Jesus Christ on a piece of toast (and various other bizarre phrases mentioning members of the Holy Family) is very much a Newfoundland/Irish thing. And apparently a Maine thing as well :) (NT) -- Carla, 12:07:44 09/25/07 Tue
