Subject: The first time I read this chapter, I was sickened, quite literally. I was on a little trip with Tati and was reading while she slept. Well, forget sleep for the rest of that night! I was a basket case. Up until this chapter I remember feeling that Pamela was perhaps too much of a risk-taker, but I liked her. Then this happened and I felt the need to avenge her! Pretty bad for a pacifist like me. I think Cindy's depiction of this horrible incident made me feel just as present and accounted for as Duncan, and just as unable to offer any help. Btw, I hated Duncan for his cowardice, but thank God he was there to help, or I imagine Pat might never have survived.

  • I saw Duncan as making an effort on Pamela and Pat's behalf. When he was punched and his family was threatened, then he backed down. But he did at least say something. I'm not sure how many of us would have kept on against four men when they threatened to kill our family and we knew they meant it. (NT) -- Carla, 19:53:19 07/12/09 Sun
