Chapter 26: I think Pamela chooses that moment to ask Casey to marry her because everything is now out in the open between them -- well, most everything. She's shown him her darkest parts and he's not run screaming into the night. In fact, he's been willing to try and go against his own instincts to help her out. True love, that.

Chapter 27: I think she felt that she and Casey were truly alone in the world in many ways. There are no parents to tell, Pat has cut himself off from them at the moment, Jamie has recently been there for her during some terrible times and his presence might remind Casey of their misunderstanding over her trip to England with Jamie and Jamie doesn't exactly whole-heartedly approve of her relationship with Casey.

Chapter 28: I thought Peg was absolutely marvelous, eccentric, charming and the kind of person you cringe over if she's your relative but love if she's not related. I found her self-awareness (of her flighty, self-centered personality as a young woman) and self-depreciation refreshing and the fact that she's willing to share lessons learned the hard way. I also loved how she took to Pamela immediately.

As for Casey's response, I'm afraid I don't understand that and it actually made my heart ache on Pamela's behalf. It's good that he's honest and upfront with her, but I know in her position I would have been devastated that he wouldn't put being there for her and their future children ahead of dying for strangers.
