Kerry

Chapter 26, Casey Riordan, Will You...?

Casey and Pamela retreat to a cottage in Co. Kerry where they have no choice; they must now confront the demons that haunt them. The chapter begins pleasant enough, but quickly heats up with an outpouring of hostility.

Q: Why do you think Pamela chose that particular moment to ask Casey for marriage?

Chapter 27, The Past Come Back

Pamela and Casey are not alone in their little oasis. We are introduced to new characters who have a long-ago connection with the Riordan family. (Must share my favorite passage: Joy was a state of superstition, grief was absolute.)

Q: When Fr. Terry asked Pamela if she wanted to notify anyone else about the upcoming wedding, why do you think she said "there's just the two of us"? Why wouldn't she want to include Jamie?

Chapter 28, Gradhaichte

We are more fully introduced to the spirited, irrepressible Peg MacBride, who quickly takes Pamela under her wing. We soon learn that Peg had high hopes of marrying Brendan, Casey's granddad, many years ago. Peg gave a gift to Pamela, a gift that had been given to her once by Brendan. The wedding takes place, lovely vows were exchanged, and Casey and Pamela find the strength to put their demons behind them.

Q: What is your first impression of Peg?
Q: How did you react to Casey's pronouncement when asked if he would be willing to pay for the freedom of strangers with his own life?
