Subject: Elaine, I've spend the last hour on Wiki looking up each of the organizations you mentioned there so I could get a feel for what there history is...that's how much I knew about them. *g* Went long>>>

I'm pretty sure I feel negatively toward the ETA and Hezbollah. The PLO/Hamas issue is more complicated and I don't think I have a clear opinion on either group - they seem to be opposing political/militant groups trying to run the Palestinian state. I don't agree with their violent methods, but it seems their groups were born out of the relocation of their people so that Isreal could have their piece of land...that's a very simplistic view, obviously. So I think their militant actions are part of the culture in that area, although I don't like them blowing each other (and innocent people) up all the time. So all this to say that IMO there is a fine line between revolutionary and terrorist and I think those that come out of a defensive posture (like the IRA) lean more on the right side (again, IMO) versus those who come out to just cause hate and discontent. Unfortunately I think in groups like this, the original intent can get lost over time and thus things are focused on violence and retaliation instead of their original intent as a group. From reading Cindy's books I understand why the IRA started and find their cause similar to the civil rights movement that was happening in the US around the same time. I just wish that they hadn't felt that violence wasn't the answer...and honestly I felt that Casey saying lets be defensive first was a good thing. Let's defend our people not just run around blowing buses up. Unfortunately, we see the offensive actions coming down the road and that's very sad to think they thought that was their only way to get their way with the British government.
