Author: Elaine
Subject: Chapter 80 ~ The Butcher's Bill

The previous chapter was a killer. But did you honestly think our esteemed author would give us a chance to breathe again this soon? Not a chance.

"For he had forgotten, in the cruel spring of his happiness, that even lovers die."

1) The chapter begins so peacefully. A newly married couple on their way to a pleasant Sunday meal with a dear friend, politics on the back burner just for today. But cruel politics is never really far away in Northern Ireland. Many of you have already expressed your sadness at losing Sylvie. I'd like to know what you felt the first time you read this chapter.

2) What does the title of this chapter signify?

3) For those of you who may be confused over the relationship between Pamela and Jamie, were you surprised to learn that Casey had been gone over a week and yet Pamela had not been in contact with Jamie during that time? Why, why not?

4) Do you have ghosts that you carry with you? Would you like to tell us about them?

Chapter 81 ~ In Sunlight or in Shadow

1) If you were a member of Sylvie's family, how would you feel right now towards Pat?

2) Can you see any benefit in Pat maintaining a relationship with David?

The title of this chapter comes from the beloved old Irish ballad, 'Danny Boy:'

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the roses dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
