Subject: It goes back to the city of Attica, a city in ancient Greece, which was apparently a city of such beauty and refinement it lent itself to becoming the byword for all such things. At times it referred more generally to Greece or things pertaining to Greece- as being the epitome of classicism, beauty and refinement or so saith the Oxford English dictionary. :())
