Hi Paula,

You know I liked our text very much and I got surprised how pragmatic is so important in our profession.

According Celce-Murcia & Olshtain(pag 19), Syntax describes relationship between linguistic forms and how they are arranged grammatically. Semantics describes how meaning is encoded in the language and also the relationship between language forms and entities in real or imaginary worlds. Finally we have pragmatics which deals with the relationship holding between linguistic forms and the human beings who use these forms.

According to these definitions, we can see why teachers who love grammar, sometimes are not so well successful. It is almost impossible teaching any language without pragmatics.

In fact I didnīt know that I liked pragmatics so much. Everything I try to teach I make a relationship with contexts , cultures, etc... Because Iīm sure it is easy to our students understand and imcorporate the new language.Am I clear? What do you think about it.
