Yes, Vânia, I guess we could say so. The interesting thing is that this exophoric reference sometimes can be very simple, which means you don't need such specific knowledge to use this device or to understand the message behind it. According to the text, if you say, for instance, "The government should be replaced", you're assuming that the reader knows what's the government you're talking about. By the way, something that really caught my attention was the fact that "it" can only be used when there is a previous reference; when there isn't any, we must use "this", for example in "Introduction: this traces the development..." I didn't know that, so it really surprised me. What do you think?
