If he was placed at the bottom of the ladder and he made an 8 car field for a full payout then where's the problem? What spectator wants to see a car in competition make a bye run. Sounds like the guy was economical and smart. I give him credit for knowing his car and doing his job on the tree. Now if he was using an electronic device such as a throttle stop well then that's a whole different issue.

It’s evident that the persons making the statements in defense of the racer in question; knows nothing about an organized race show. Sure the fans like side by side action, but the rules say you have to qualify. Now if this racer had truly cared about the fans, he would have made a qualified run just like everyone else. Any true fan of drag racing enjoys the show much more when the rules are followed. But as it was shown this particular racer had a plan and it worked. It amazes me that people can have such a misunderstanding of the sport that they would defend un-sportsman like conduct. It just shows that they have no clue how a race should be run. It has nothing to do with the mechanics of the car or the racer knowing his car. The problem is that he did not make an attempt to qualify; therefore not following the rules! That is where I’m saying he played the field. There again I have to say….some of the responsibility lies on the organizer. It makes you wonder how experienced these racers are, and also the ones defending him. I guarantee you that a racer could not go to any other qualified show and get in the show without qualifying. If it is outlaw and run what you brung, why does the other guy a couple of posts up say that there is a problem with running a throttle stop...that mean you can bring too much?
