"Max?" a woman's soft voice whispered. "Are you alright?"

Agent Maxwell turned from the window he had taken to staring out of, to his wife of eleven years and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"You didn't sleep a wink last night, did you?" she sympathized. It was early still, but Max had a lot he wanted to accomplish, and wanted a jumpstart on the day, and hopefully the answers he was looking for.

"It's just…just something I can't quite put my finger on. Something about this case is all wrong." Max shook his head, contemplating his next move, as he remained in deep thought.

Understanding that part of her husband better than anyone else, his wife gave his hand a loving squeeze and nodded. He leaned to kiss the back of her neck, then left the warm confines of her arms to get dressed and head back over to UCLA.

Josie woke with a start.

'Daylight?' she thought groggily. 'No!' She had not intended on sleeping through the night but her body had betrayed what her mind had planned. Pulling herself off the couch, she glanced at the clock on the wall and sighed with relief that it was not as late as she had feared at first. Grabbing her bag, she ran her hands through her unruly hair to smooth it down and raced out the door.

'This changes nothing,' she thought to herself. Hurriedly pulling the door closed behind her, she never noticed that it didn't latch completly behind her.
