swing gave reason to go against traditional almost Victorian styles of behavior and dance. women were allowed to show their ankles (and more), African Americans became prevelant in their music and dance styles, and that, according to Archbishop Benton, it promoted sex.

Talk of cannibalistic rhythms and less than civilized would lead one to beilive that a vast number of people would have racial prejudices towards blacks having an influence in popular culture.

it absolutely has an effect. as racy ideas become more acceptable, it leads to even more outlandish behavior. take rap for example. its roots came from beebop which came from jazz which swing developed out of. rap stars will do horrific things because they can.

going off of answer three, i think that rap is rather immoral as is some heavy metal and screamo. however, in twenty years, the things in which they sing about might be considered old fashioned much the same wy that we look at swing.

although marilyn manson has been singing for about twenty years or so, his ideas and provocative lyrics are still very hard for many people to accept. they cross too many boundaries that the public is not ready to cope with.
