1. Since swing was a new thing, older people were a bit skeptical to say the least. Archbishop Beckman says that this music will lure the youth into hell, and apparently many people felt the same way. In my opinion, however, it just seems to be a classic example of the generation gap.

2. These attacks don't seem racially motivated because none of these quotes explicitly single out African-Americans as the cause of the problem.

3. Music is a way to escape the hardships of daily life, so I do believe that music can do many things listed here. For instance, Dr. A. A. Brill says that swing made them forget the reality they were living in, such as the Depression, but many people seemed to want to forget this hard time, and music was one of their only ways out.

4. I don't believe any type of music is immoral per se. I think some of the subject matter in some types of music is immoral, but no particular genre of music is completely clean or completely immoral.

5. Definitely. The two that strike me the most are the reaction to rock and roll in the 60's and the reaction to rap and hip hop today. Both of these are instigated by the parents, and it just serves to show the generation gap between parents and teenagers.
