1.early work was very upbeat and poppy and more inline with the popular music of the time. It was mostly playedwith the usual instrumentation of the time with what the normal rock bands made use of. their middle work showed their developement towards more artistic, classical music. Eleanoe Rigby, for example used all stringed instruments without any other rock instruments. they began to develope a broader range with more poetic lyrics. the final stages of their music involved influence of pychedelic drugs which have a pervading influence on their music. they used more outlandish instumentation and very poetic lyrics. they had nearly lost all of their pop roots at this point.

2. much of the lyrics became a little darker and much more poetic. from their beginning style involving pop lyrics about love and happiness, their style took a turn towards issues of the time period artistically metaphored.

3.Eleanor Rigby (which is my favorite Beatles song by the way) showed no examples of being a rock song. its instrumentation showed all of the characteristics of a more subdued classical song. however, it recieved such good reviews from the public because it was the Beatles. their popularity had the momentum to keep that force of their career even when they strayed away from popular music.

4. i think that the middle age of the Beatles was far and away the best era. the classical influences are very appealing to me. the beginning of the beatles was too poppy. though it wasnt bad music in any way, their more artistic music was much better. however, their later music was too psychedelic and i dont understand it. it is too much. the incredible amounts of sounds and the lyrics combine awkwardly for me.
