1. The Beatles changed their music from awesome to totally awesome. The pop beginnings that are true classics, to pepper's gentle instruction into the experimental. In the beginning, the Beatles defined the American Teen Dreamboat. John's scary lyrics, Paul's dashing good looks, George's instrumental mastery, Ringo's simple beats. That was the early, base, Beatles band. They evolved from there, with the release of Rubber Soul, and then 67', which in my mind, was the most influential year in music history. The Beatles instrumentation evolved from that classic set, to involving the world around them, strings, soundbytes, anything. They were pure awesome, with the advent of an untapped musical world that the Beatles explored through and through. Another great thing about the Beatles metamorphosis is the structure moved on from what could be played on the radio, to what could be played anytime, anywhere. The musical maturity that the Beatles showed during this time was unparalled and totally unprecedented.
2. The lyrics of the Beatles changed from singing to the young women of the world, to singing to the cornflake they are sitting on while their waiting for the man to come. While the Beatles continually deny writing "I am the Walrus" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" while on LSD, I'm sure that they wrote it after they finished their acid trip and recollected upon it and produced one of the greatest years in all of music. Anybody can write "I wanna hold your hand" but not everybody can write "Strawberry Fields Forever". They matured into music masters.
3. Eleanor Rigby is a rock song because it is played by the Beatles and that in its self makes it rock music. They classical construction of the song and no use of traditional rock instruments makes no difference if it is a rock song, John Lennon makes it rock.
4. I love the experimental stage of the Beatles because it progressed music further than anybody could have ever imagined.
