In reply to: Mr. Moore 's message, "The Beatles - Growing Up" on 08:20:01 12/07/07 Fri

1) The earlier songs like 'i want to hold your hand' and 'a hard days night' were about two to two and half minutes long. The structure for those song was AABA and it changed to more complex structures. Also the instrumentation becomes more complex, with added electronics and other instruments.
2)The earlier songs of the Beatles were more pop and dealt with subjects that the regular audiences enjoyed. As they got older as a band they would talk about more serious subjects, such as eleanor rigby. Also they became more abstract such as lucy in the sky with diamonds.
3) One thing that makes eleanor rigby a rock song is that it is sung by the Beatles. Just their persona and reputation made it rock. Also the song deals with some more serious and abstract material then a regular pop song would have.
4) My favorite era of the Beatles is around the time of eleanor rigby. It is when they start to really go on their own and push the limits of what music could do and say during that time. They have not yet gotten to they point where they go over my head.
