Discussion on principles, not traditions. Religious discussion always seems to take a turn downward when people cannot avoid the temptation of talking about their religious traditions, instead of keeping things focussed on principles. Often, religious traditions cross lines of absurdity, and so on this forum, we attempt to remain focussed on the principles that ought to be driving religious belief, rather than traditions.
Religious tradition of itself is not responsible for absurdity.
Often our traditions are based on truth, and if so, then a discussion on the principles of our beliefs is an easy process. But traditions that are not based on correct principles are not designed to be sustained through discussion, but through scare tactics, lies and misinformation, and the concentration of matters that in the end have less to do with a individual's salvation.
