You are right that “domino theory” played an essential role in Eisenhower’s presidency, but let’s remember something: it was fallacious. Communism never did spread throughout Southeast Asian like Eisenhower and others predicted. It is true that the Viet Cong brought communism to South Vietnam, the Pathet Lao to Laos, and the Khmer Rouge to Cambodia, but the larger countries of this region — Indonesia and Thailand — never did fall. There was no domino effect after all.
