Question 1:
I believe President Johnson's Vietnam Policy of gradually increasing troops in Vietnam was a good policy in theory however it didn't account for some major issues. For one thing, by sending in a small army it just made the United States' forces that much weaker. I believe the United States thought that we wouldn't be met with a lot of resistence in Vietnam, a presumption that could have lead to our failure in Vietnam. Another problem from our underestimate of the resistence the troops would meet in Vietnam is that because we lost many troops from when they were first sent to Vietnam, the more troops we sent was only replenishing the men who died in combat; it didn't make the army much larger. In conclusion, President Johnson's policy worked in theory but it had some serious underestimates in it that lead to our failure in Vietnam.
