I think that during his two terms as President of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower's most successful foreign policy action was the establishment of the Strategic Air Command in 1954. This idea originated within the mind of John Dulles, but Eisenhower greatly helped carry it into effect. The objectives behind the SAC were to temporarily set aside America’s army and navy, and regulate an air fleet consisting of “superbombers,” which were equipped with nuclear bombs. I think that the creation of such a command was successful because it allowed Eisenhower to do multiple things, and gave the US numerous advantages. For example, it allowed him to threaten communist nations, such as the Soviet Union and China, with nuclear weaponry. In other words, he made it known that nuclear bombs would be set off on these nations if they became intemperate with their communist beliefs. In addition, it gave Eisenhower an opportunity to promote the nation's nuclear weaponry and maintain a powerful military program, as methods of keeping peace. Due to this, containment of communism would also be further fulfilled, preventing the spread of it among other nations.
