Just a comment that may or may not apply. Possibly the Oxygen given was blended with some anesthetic gas t make you relax or fall asleep. If you had some missing time experience during the procedure, that possibly happened.

The reason may may simply be to make you comfortable, but possibly they did some untold exam on you too and further down om you.

I have the impression that orthodontists check the puberty status of teens, or get it checked by some doctor, since that status tells them what they can expect of further growth in the jaws and the face.

Myself I had braces, which I think made more harm than good. But I had also at the times an intimate exam to check my development status, but in another session though.
