Boy, 13yo, Canada, pelvic exam with bladder augmention surgery thereafter.

I am male. It happene as an early teen attending elementary school, 13yo, in Canada in 2013, in a A children's hospital.

It happeneed in a special x ray room and an operating room. My mom brought me. A nurse and a doctor in the urology department examined me. My mom was present for the exam, but not for the surgery.

ARRANGEMENTS AND ANESTHESIA

I was given sadative or pain-killing medicines through my mouths. I was given pain-killing or sedative shots. I was given anesthesia through a mask. I was totally put to sleep.

For the exam i was awake but for the surgery I was asleep.

THE PROCEDURE STEP BY STEP

They did the x ray to see how I peed. They had me stop eating two days before the surgery and drink stuff that made me go to the bathroom. Then cleaned my tummy area with special soap the night before and the morning of my surgery.

Then took me to the operating room. They opened me up and took out a part of my small intestine. and used it to make my bladder bigger. Then they put a catheter in me.

They also Circumsised me to help prevent any urinary tract infections post surgery.

DETAILS ABOUT THE EXAMS

They did an ultrasound of my kidneys and the tubes to my bladder and of my bladder. They palpated my outar male genitals and testicles. They slid down my foreskin and spread my urinary opening.

They inserted instruments into my urinary opening. They put a tube in me to put water inside me. They took x-rays of the examined areas. They took x rays well they filled my bladder and then watched it drain. They inserted a special catheter or tube to measure something inside my urinary system during the x-ray.

They possibly, but not surely, used a caheter or tube to take specimens from my urinary system.

They inserted a scope to look into my bladder. They said that they were going to do that during my surgery.

I think they did a rectal or bowel exam when I was under anesthesia, but they did not tell me.

ARRANGEMENTS AND SYMPTOMS AFTER THE EXAM

They used a catheter to collect urine for a couple of days after the surgery. Sometimes on long car trips i still put one in just inc.

I had a strange pain or irritation down my throut after the exam as if I had been secretly intubated. They said it was from the breathing tube during my surgery.

Nothing real weird happaned.

REASON AND OPINION

I had problems with peeing at night. Something to do with me having a small bladder for my size. I did not get other diagnoses or reasons.

It was ok i guess. I would rather have not been opened up.

COMMENTS

Thanks for the testamonial about your bladder augmentation surgery.

This looks like a standard exam procedure for urination problems in the aga group, and a standard treatment for a bladder concidered too small.

It looks like they waited with the endoscopic bladder examination until the day of the surgery and used this examination to decide the exact surgical procedure.

But i have some questions about the procedure.

- How did they call you in, and who had the idea of the exams in the first place?

- Were also other classmates called in to such an exam and some more detailled exam and possible surgery under full general anesthesia? If so, do you know what type of surgery others had?

- Did they also perform other exams about your bodily development, like orthopaedic exams or psychosocial assessment?
