Boy, 12yo, North America, Pelvic asssesmeentss with enddosocpy

I had cystoscopy - I am male. The exam took place in North America, New york city, 12 years old, Year 2011, in a hospital. Got no explanation. The exam was a total surprize. Parents said something like: The doctor shall look at you down in your stomach. Dropped off by mommy.

PREPARATION

Got to a special preparation room. Had to undress completely and go to bed. Given enema during preparations. The whole bed was rolled with meupon when the time for the exam had come. Taken vitals like temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. God lubricating and pain-killing fluid inserted in through the pee-hole. Was totally naked during exam. Lay on back with legs in stirrups.

DETAILS OF THE PROCEDURE

They put a flexible snake-like cystoscope in through the urethra. They put a rigid stick-like cystoscope in through the urethra. They pumped upp the bladder with air or gas when looking inside. They also pumped up and irrigated bladder with water when looking inside. They took out the scope and inserted a new scope to take further specimens.

The scope or a new intrument was inserted even further up towards the kindeys.I am not sure, but had pain on the sides of my back as if they inserted the scope even further up towards the kindeys.

They also used an ultrasond probe on the stomach to inspect the bladder area. They inserted an ultrasond probe in through the anus to inspect the bladder and genital area.

They made an ultrasound exam of the scrotum and testicles. They inspected anus with a scope. They inspected with a scope some way up into the colon - sigmoidoscopy. They inspected the whole colon - full colonoscopy.


ARRANGEMENTS AFTER THE EXAM

Had catheter in the bladder some time after the exam. Had to stay in bed some hours after the exam. Got medicines into urethra with a syringe after the exam.


DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

Had to have a cathetherization routine. Had to have catheter in the bladder during night.


REASON

The reason was problems with urination.",,"Had cystoscopy because of known handicaps or physical development problems. It was useful but It was painful.

COMMENTS

This is a thorrough pelvic assessment that commonly is done on children of this age groups. In some societies all boys have this exam done at the age 11-13, but then usually without full colonoscopy. In somewhat fewer societies all girls have the procedure. But this common procedure is very seldom told about to the public and usually comes as a surprice.

The internal ultrasound procedure told about, is done through the anus in boys, while mostly through the vagina in girls.

It look like that they first inspected his urethra and bladder with a flexible scope, and then used a rigid scope to inspect all the way up into his kidneys.

Pretty often one finds something to correct or some problem that give reason for some daily support of the pelvic function, and sleeping with catheter is such a support.

It is not clear from the repport what kind of anesthesia the boy got, how much he remembers from the procedures and how much he got told about it afterwards. I guess he got sedation through an IV in addition to lubrication with analgesic medication in his urethra and anus. But he was probably awake when the bladder capacity got tested through filling with water.
