It was a classical Rorschach-test.
During these tests, they do not only look for answers, but they also record the reactions and behavior and also use these to make conclusions. I think therefore there was some hidden camera and microphone there that recorded the session, possibly behind a one-way mirror or hidden in some electrical armature.
