Boy, 10yo, pelvic exam including cystoscopy at school for behavior problems

I had cystoscopy - I am male. The exam happened in Western Europe, Austria, 10 years old in priod 1970-1979. Had cystoscopy in the doctor's or nurse's office at school. Got no explanation. The exam was a total surprize.

Had cystoscopy because of soicial or psychological problems or behaviour interpreted as symptoms of such problems.


PREPARATION

Mentor woman from boarding school followed. Given enema during preparations. A doctor came asked questions and explained. They both said they are worried and have to check me Was totally naked during exam.


THE EXAM AS I REMEMBER IT

They put a flexible snake-like cystoscope in through the urethra. They pumped up and irrigated bladder with water when looking inside.

They inserted an ultrasond probe in through the anus to inspect the bladder and genital area.

They examined my testicles too They inspected anus with a scope.


ARRANGEMENT AFTER THE EXAM

Had catheter in the bladder some time after the exam.


DIAGNOSIS AND FOLLOW-UP

Diagnosis - neurological problems. Got hormonal therapy or other medication for development disturbances. Had to have a cathetherization routine. Had to have catheter in the bladder during night.

It was useful.


COMMENTS

Boys and girls with problems of social, beahavioral or nervous kind are often subjected to a thorrough internal pelvic assessment. This is little told about to the public.

The theory behind this seems to be that disturbances in the secretion of sex hormones, problems with the pelvic nervous functions, and problems with the function of the urinary system and rectal area lead to such social and psychological symptoms.

The treatments told about, including being catheterized during night, is also quite common in these cases, according to the testamonials I have got.
