It depends a lot on what model you are going to use...BARF or Full Prey model... You'll get different answers for each of these... I feed full prey model and this is what they subscribe as far as percentages:

5-10% organs (1/2 of this amount is liver)

10-15% edible bones

80-85% muscle meat (and the rest of the critter)

You can feed just about any prey animal that can run, swim, or fly. For examples of certain raw meaty bone "recipes", please visit Raw Fed Dogs. Here are some suggestions as well as helpful notes:

* Whole Eggs
* Beef (any parts, except dense weight-bearing bones)
* Liver (any species)
* Kidney (any species)
* Green tripe
* Heart (any species)
* Spleen (any species)
* Sweetbreads (any species)
* Lung (any species)
* Whole rabbits (or parts)
* Chicken (whole or parts)
* Turkey (whole or parts)
* Quail
* Pheasant
* Duck
* Goose
* Pork
* Lamb
* Goat
* Deer
* Elk
* Bison
* Pronghorn antelope
* Ostrich
* Kangaroo
* Emu
* Whole fish (avoid fresh salmon)
* Canned fish (use sparingly)
* Rats
* Squirrels
* Mice
* Moose

A really great group to take a look at...even just doing a search of the discussions helps A LOT if you come up with any questions like you've got:

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/

Just think of it in the natural sense... What would your boy be taking down and eating on a daily basis if he were out killing his own food? If chickens and turkeys were easy to get, he'd be eating those primarily and whatever else in between...rodents...birds if he found any etc...

Lots of people make Raw feeding so much more difficult in the ammounts and percentages than it needs to be. Often it's in the beginning stages when folks are either still on the fence with Raw etc.

Considering what the dog is getting in his kibble...IMO you can't really go too wrong with RAw as long as it is properly researched and understood.

On that note, I must now go chop this evening's chicken.

Sara
