Taylor Grubb, Miss Dallas County, has volunteered for the “Cowboy Santa” organization in Fort Worth. The toys are both donated and bought from contributors that include the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign, which is a part of Taylor’s platform of military/family support, local charity drives and private funding and contributions.

This program has made the news in the DFW area in the past week, due to a shortage of toy donations and volunteer help. They will continue seeking both this week from 8-5 everyday.

Contact Taylor Grubb or Dallas County for a list of numbers for contacting them if someone else is interested in helping out!

Taylor would love to see some Miss Texas/Miss Teen Texas contestants join her! A “challenge” of sorts!?!?!?

The pictures show Taylor “shopping” to fill the wish list of children in the area so that they have a wonderful and Merry Christmas! The picture with all the bags is the end of the shopping day with over 1800 Santa bags filled with toys and goodies for the parents to pick up.

More shopping and distribution this week! Call for info!

They are members of the VFW. Would it be possible for us to get a copy of that picture? Thanks so much for your help.

News: (Story with accompanying photos of Miss San Antonio 2009, Alanna Sarabia.)

"Around Texas with Alanna”

Alanna Sarabia has been an extremely busy member of Fiesta San Antonio Royalty since being crowned Miss San Antonio 2009 during the last Fiesta event of 2008.

On the 20th of September, she attended a fundraiser for “Operation Comfort” hosted by Cox Radio for wounded service members housed at Brooke Army Medical Center. The event was held at the Texas Pride Barbecue in Adkins, Texas, and was a resounding success.

.

Alanna was invited to participate in a Birthday Celebration on the 26th of September for Mr. Fisher (deceased) of Fisher House fame. The event was held at the Brooke Army Medical Center on Fort Sam Houston. The event was attended by in excess of 10, 000 people and was a resounding success.

On the 4th of October, she was invited to participate in the Texas State Fair Parade in Fort Worth, Texas, where she proudly represented our wonderful city.

On the 1st of November Alanna visited the San Antonio International Airport FedEx Terminal for a fundraising event for Special Olympics. Alanna had a great time at the “Airplane Pull” mingling with the Special Olympics Athletes and their sponsors. It was a highly successful event for the organization.

.

The following weekend, November 7, 8 and 9th, Alanna was invited to College Station for the Special Olympics “Fall Festival” where 1,500 athletes participated in numerous events. Alanna signed autographs and served as a “hugger” and award presenter. She had a wonderful time greeting athletes from the previous weekend in San Antonio and meeting new athletes from around the state. Great job, Alanna!

. .

On15th of November, back here is San Antonio, Alanna was a special guest at the Special Olympics bowling tournament held at Bandera Bowl where she greeted old friends and made new ones.

It feels good I suspect to have a bunch of Dummies remark on an incident that was clearly a 'Technical Glitch". Contrived or not - it was evident! Miss Texas 2013 gave an impeccable performance at the event and was noted as such. So, with that, consider your slurs 'wishful thinking'! However, just be mindful that Ivana made the Top-10, and would have moved on if it weren't for the sound-system playing games! I applaud this young woman as she is always giving another a 'push-up'! she's poised and beautiful inside as well as out. Don't take me there in playing the 'race-card', you really don't want to know my deepest thoughts?!

Isn't it time for non contestants to celebrate the effort, talent and beauty of our young women representatives? If you do not have the courage or gender to get up on stage and be judged then you should keep remarks positive.

[> Subject: Did Miss Texas really have a technical problem? If that is true, could she not have stopped and demanded it be fixed and start over? You can at locals and at State. I remember this happening years ago at Miss America. It really was a horrible performance and she was totally off key. Didn't she know she was? It was worse than chalk on a blackboard. Why did'nt the Miss Texas Org. complain? That's why I thought she can't sing. No one complained.

I would dearly love to have some of those pictures, I know my three daughters would love to see them also. I understand that you have specific years that you have but I was wondering if possibly you have some photographs that are older.

Thank you so much,

Sharon McCauley Jones (1944 - 2009

Sharon McCauley Jones, 64, passed away peacefully at her home in Southlake on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, surrounded by family and friends after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Countryside Bible Church, Southlake.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made via www.VitasCharityFund.org, which provides loving care to the terminally ill.
Born Oct. 9, 1944, in Waynesboro, Va., she grew up and successfully represented both Athens and her beloved Texas in the 1964 Miss America Pageant, finishing third overall. She continued her interest and support in the Miss Texas Pageant throughout her life, helping young women better themselves through their pageant pursuits. She loved bringing people of all ages closer to the Lord and avidly volunteered in hospice. She felt her calling was helping others become closer to God and she was profoundly fulfilled by her accomplishment in acquiring a Christian counseling license to further help others find their way in Christ.
In her family life, she was a doting grandmother to eight who, along with the pets with whom she shared her home, she was fond of spoiling. Her vocal talents led her to singing throughout her life. Ultimately, her love of the Lord and her natural talent found harmony in her singing in her church choir.
Survivors: Her husband, L. Van Jones; mother, Fritzi Rizer; brother, Gary McCauley and wife, Beckie; daughter, Susanne Swift Regan and husband, John; son, Bill Swift III and wife, Amy; and stepdaughters, Dee Dee Sifuentes and husband, Adrian, and Dana Bailey and husband, Scott. She also left behind a rich legacy with a host of other family and friends.

I met.Sharon when I was 9. She was being interviewed @ western hills hotel pool in ft worth just after her crowning. We were so thrillled. Annotated in paper as "3 little dripping wet girls ran up to adore Miss Texas". Later she gave lessons to a schoolmate, Karen Carlisle, who ended up with a voice from heaven. Just told my husband this story after being reminded from something on tv & googled her & learned of her passing. She had the spirit of an angel. So sorry for your loss. BTW, I'm 60 now.

Thank you for sharing and posting your thoughts! We're sorry you just learned of Sharon's passing through Google. That's happened to me recently about an old friend and it's not a pleasant way to learn someone you admired has passed. Sharon was very active in our Miss Texas Program. I had the pleasure of sitting next to her several years in a row during Miss Texas and found her lovely and friendly and she shared her ideas on the scoring and gowns and talent. It was fun! During each Prelim Night, Sharon wrote down her own scoring of each contestant and we began comparing. She was a tough judge but fair! Our Organization misses her very much!

Peter Blair---I’m very saddened to hear this, but know she is in a better place. I will always cherish the first time I met Sharon and Van. My fist impressions of Sharon are the same today as they were they day we met; a charismatic, beautiful lady with a fantastic voice, a sincere heart of gold who loved the lord. Van and Sharon were inseparable with their love for each other, and always opened their heart and home to new friends. Van; my heart and prayers reach out for you and your family; even though we know she is a better place, we also know that it is never easy to loose a loved one, especially when that love is shared to the degree that you and Sharon have for each other.

Any pictures of my Mom that you would want to post would be appreciated. We have many of course, but I am sure there are some out there we have not seen. Her Memorial will be Saturday at 11:00am at Countryside Bible Church in Southlake. I invite all that want to show their love of Sharon and their support to our family to attend.

Sharon lit up a room when she walked in. She was always 'camara ready' with a smile on her face. Her spirit and spunk will be thoroughly missed!!
Van and family, we are sorry for your loss. But, one day we will be rejoicing with her again in Heaven. And what a day of rejoicing that will be!

My daughter always looked to Sharon as a role model of what a Miss Texas and Miss America should strive to be. She loved giving to her community, church and to others. Her love of life, and her belief in this system was without equal. She will be missed, but will always be in our hearts. To Van and his family, thank you for sharing her with us.

I want to make a contribution in memory of Sharon. I know that originally I had read here and in the paper the Southlake, MTO, or her church. But noticed that the new obit said something different. I hate to bother Van at this difficult time for him. If anyone has spoken with him and knows for sure what his wishes are that info would be much appreciated. Thanks so much! Sharon was a great lady, and such an inspiration!

Van's wishes are the 3 Memorials set up for Countryside Bible, MTO or MSSO.
This was what he told everyone at visitation and anytime someone calls.

Monday 12-3-12

Yes, I knew Sharon & am certainly sorry to now learn of her passing in Sept 2009. I met her & family through her dad working for my father's Texas wholesale distribution business circa mid 60's when I was lucky thirteen (13).

Might you kindly pass this contact message request on to her younger brother, Gary & have him please e-mail me? From best educated guess & memory Gary was born in '46 in June, so he must be 66 today.

Thank you so much,

C. R. Clark

Reply to contestant who said she has to work and pay bills and loans. During your year as Miss Texas, you are paid for appearances and performances. You have a Business Manager who handles your bookings. You receive a car and a free apt for a year. Plus wardrobe from sponsors.

Dear Contestant,

Miss Texas is paid to make appearances adn to perform.
Her travel is free to out of state events and to Miss America. Sponsors supply your wardrobe. You get a good salary because there are hundreds of scheduled appearances that people pay you for. Plus a car and an apartment for a year. You have a business Manager, dentist, doctors, lawyers etc who help you free. I know a former Miss Texas who was quite a few years ago. She just used her Miss Texas money to buy her new home; downpayment and etc. She had saved part of her yearnings and they were in cds. She's not the only Miss Texas who has bought a car, condo or new house or paid off bills. Plus you win enough scholarship money to finish paying for school.

The MPFO put together a great event for Taylor today. You can certainly appreciate having someone as skilled as Ricardo on your board when you attend such a well planned event. We were happily surprised to see Jamie Story here from Hawaii along with Shilah Phillips, Stacy James and of course Kristen Blair. Former teens included Brittney Wellsfry, Kendall Morris and Sydney Capello. Numerous other current and former contestants were also present. Many people spoke including Jan Mitchell, Ricardo, Jean and Stacy as well as BreAnna Young. There was around 150 people in the Frisco Senior Center (which is amazingly nice and certainly well suited for this type of event). I did not take photos but Jim and Zac did so I would guess look for them on here or Facebook. I did twit pic some so check out our new Irving Twitter for a little sneak peak. Good luck in Orlando Taylor!

Taylor looked adorable as always and her speech was heartfelt and cute. She really is a great Miss Teen Texas and should do well in Florida!
Congrats to the MPFO group on putting on a wonderful event. It was first class!

Miss Plano/Miss Frisco ORG - Cheryl
Hi all! The MPFO board and girls would like to say a huge THANK YOU!! To all who came to support Taylor at the Homecoming!! There were between 150-160 of you there, and we appreciate every one of you!! We were fortunate that Jamie happened to be in town, being a former Miss Texas as well as a former Miss Plano. We appreciate Shilah performing the Star Spangled Banner and singing a beautiful song to Taylor. Anyone who did take any photos, feel free to post your link to them on our facebook page. I know Jim and Zac were there snapping away, but there is always room for more pictures; you may have one the rest of us missed!! Thanks again for being there to support Taylor!!

1. Julia Anderson won TRUE BEAUTY & $100,000.

2. Shila Phillips made Top 20 on 2nd Season of American Idol and due to Randy Jackson having given her a contract, when the Rules were changed, she was disqualified for having a contract and did not make air time.

3. A former Miss Ellis County made the final show about Interns on Seventeen Mag (?) and it was on MTV.
Lovely blonde girl, sorry I forgot her name. That was a couple years ago.

4. Alexis Young made the Bachelor Show and lasted about five shows. She looked gorgeous.

5. A former Miss Dallas?, last year, a blonde dancer, was on a dance competition show and made it a few cuts. Realy cute girl and good dancer.

MTV's Miss Seventeen
Miss Seventeen puts 17 accomplished and ambitious young women in a Manhattan loft to compete in weekly character-testing challenges, all under the watchful eye of Seventeen magazine editor-in-chief Atoosa Rubenstein. The winning girl will receive a prize package including a college scholarship and a paid internship at Seventeen. None of the contestants are strangers to success, but will they be able to keep their cool when the stakes get high?

Miss Colleyville 2008 Paige Jones(cute blond dancer) was on "so you think you can dance" last year. She went to Vegas and lost in the final round due to they said she was not elegant enough in her ballroom dance attempt. They teased her because was was a pageant girl. Kind of like they teased Julia for being a pageant girl too.

There are always 2 divisions to the contest. The Internet Vote and then the second part. I don't remember what Erin had to do that year, but this year, Miss Teen Texas Sydney Capello was in the final 3 (Texas, Colorado, California). Sydney had to write an essay. Miss Teen California won.

The entry itself involves answering 3-4 questions and writing an essay on how they exemplify the four points of the crown. Since the contest was so close this year, the final three were required to also write an additional essay.

The Miss Texarkana Pageant was been around since 1933 and they had several of the former titleholders at the pageant on Saturday night. The two emcees, Jessie Ward, Miss Arkansas 2001 and Frank Poff, an attorney in Texarkana had the privilege of interviewing the very first Miss Texarkana from 1933, Ms. Annie Lillian Platz Cunningham. She told the audience that back then there were some 50 contestants and all they had to do as walk across the stage one time and then the winner was called out. There was no Interview or Talent or Swimsuit competition back then. She was a VERY spry and intelligent 91 year old former Miss Texarkana.

Let me get this straight.
Today, Monday, Julia is on Tyra Banks. (Fox?)

Final TRUE BEAUTY show is on tonight, Monday on ABC.

Tomorrow - Winners are on Tyra Banks on Fox (?) during the day.

Question: Last show I saw, Ray got kicked off. Have I missed an episode?
(Sorry that I did not catch the runner up pageant or I would have deleted it in topic space.)

Yeah, Thanks, I was thinking Laura Lee the blonde had still been on and also, Tyra Banks made some reference to Laura recently cut and that was why I thought I'd missed a show. I hope some cable network like VH1 or Bravo or Oxygen will rerun the series, as I missed the second, fourth and now this last show. I want to see them run one saturday, back to back when I can watch them. They'll probably get rerun pretty soon.
I got a bad feeling by end of the Tyra Banks Interview, today, that the blonde guy wins. I hope Julia wins! She deserves it.

If you go to abc.com and click on free episodes. You can watch the whole season. It is really good quality video with limited commercials. Hope this helps. :)

Way to go Julia!!! we are proud of you. This is a great accomplishment. Now maybe people will view pageant women and girls in a different light and not judge until they get to know someone. This proves pageant girls are extremely beautiful inside and out, they are gracious, kind, loyal, trustworthy, compassionate, caring, giving, selfless, give to charities, volunteer etc. everything we know we are. Now the world will see!!! Thanks Julia you are great!

Julia explained that she won Miss Teen TX, but resigned. My question is about that pageant, and whether it was her first try. Was she a prelim winner? Had she been a finalist before, etc.? She's our new national beauty from TX, so I'd like a history lesson about her PRIOR to giving up the crown.

Answer to your questions...it was not Julia's first pageant at teen texas, she had been a runner-up competitor, Miss Teen Northeast Tarrant County, and I think they year she won she was Miss Teen Tarrant County (I know she was Holly Hill's girl) she had the determiniation of a winner and what you saw on the show was the REAL Julia, she has nothing to hide and will tell you her entire story. She had been a prelim talent winner i want to say every year that she competed at Teen Texas. Glad she is proving to the world that there really are "second chances"

I'm thinking that ... Holly Hill was still competing the year Julia won Teen Texas? (Didn't Holly age out the year Regan Hughes won Miss Texas?)

I thought Sherry and Jim Hanson were Julia's directors that year. It wasn't her first pageant.
She was certainly a top girl that year and most people thought she would win.

Julia was Ken's girl, Holly was helping Ken at that time. Ken had two titles that year. Chase Brown was Miss Burleson along with Julia. Chase won the following year.

Actually, Ken and Greg were Julia's executive directors the year she was Teen FTW and won Teen Texas. Mom and I served on their board of directors that year and worked with Julia. Julia lived with Mom. Later we decided to crown another Miss North Texas but honored our committment to work with Julia. The year before that she was Teen NE Tarrant County under Brenda Harville. I would just like to finally say how proud we are of Julia. I have never had my heart broken so badly because I knew how much Julia NEEDED to be Miss Teen Texas and one mistake cost her that opportunity. I loved this child like my own and it was very hard for a long time. I am so glad that the rest of the world can finally see how amazing she is. It does my heart good to see how happy she is and what a fabulous person she is! Julia....Mom,Dad, Diron and I love you so much! We are so happy for you and know that this is just the beginning of what life has to offer you!

Julia has a heart of gold and I'm so proud of her. She always admitted to her mistake and has grown from it. That's what mistakes are for. You can not imagine the heartache that the the three of us went through, but we hurt for Julia not ourselves. We are very proud of Julia and the wonderful young lady she is. Julia will not be competing in pageants in the Miss Texas/America system.
TRUE BEAUTY has become her opportunity to share her story with others and not be judged as she was when she was younger and for those who still threw stones this past year.
It was truly and honor to see Julia progress every step of the way in this reality series and show everyone the kind of beautiful girl she was inside and out.
She will be currently doing Celebrity reporting with Tyra Banks as Tyra stated on today's show announcing Julia as the the winner of TRUE BEAUTY.
Way to go Julia! Nothing can stand in your way!

Michael Hannah (former President of the Miss Texas State Franchiseholders Association) posted 2/28/09 6:43 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Julia Anderson competed three times in the Miss Teen Texas Pageant before winning the title. She held the title of Miss Teen West Texas 2000. She won the “Horizon Most Talented Dancer” (for First year Contestants) and was 14th Place at the 2000 Miss Teen Texas Pageant. In 2001, Julia held the title of Miss Teen Northeast Tarrant County, was a Preliminary Talent Winner, and won the “Best Overall Dancer Award” at the 2001 Miss Teen Texas Pageant. In 2002, Julia held the title of Miss Teen Fort Worth, was a Preliminary Swimsuit Winner at the 2002 Miss Teen Texas Pageant, and also won the title of Miss Teen Texas 2002. She was obviously an incredible dancer and contestant, and the Miss Texas State Franchiseholders Association (former sponsors of the Miss Teen Texas Program) was so proud of Julia for winning the title of Miss Teen Texas 2002 because of her hard work and dedication. But as we all know, although nobody is perfect, Miss Teen Texas (now Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen) is expected to be a role model) to our youth. The circumstances were unfortunate, but after winning the title of Miss Teen Texas on July 2, 2002, and after much anguish by everybody involved with the program and the attempt to “do the right thing” for Julia as well as preserve the quality of the Miss Teen Texas Program, Julia relinquished her title a month later on August 3, 2002. Her predicament captured national media attention and the State Association had no other choice than to accept her resignation. I personally admire Julia and applaud her for deciding to compete again last summer at the 2008 Miss Texas Pageant because she knew it would be an uphill climb. I also want to congratulate Julia for winning the “True Beauty” reality show. I have always thought Julia had a very bright future. Just look at where Vanessa Williams’ career has gone over the past 25+ years!!

Danielle won a Preliminary Talent Award and received the Overall Best Vocalist Award. 2nd RU was Ashley Harris - Miss Teen Texarkana 2001. 3rd RU was Madison Emert - Miss Teen Abilene 2001. 4th RU was Millicent Martin - Miss Teen Ellis County 2001.

So if MTO had to sign a 5 year contract with the City of Arlington, does that mean they just have to have it in Arlington, not necessarily at UT-Arlington? I don't see how the City and the University combine their contracts.
I'm surprised it isn't at the Arlington Convention Center or at Johnnie High's venue. (Although I don't think Johnnie's theatre has enough backstage/dressing room space for the average 50 something contestants and additional performers)
Will it be televised this year??? (Sorry if that was mentioned somewhere above-it is late and my brain didn't capture/see that information)

My daughter used to do dance competitions @ UTA and the dressing rooms are awesome!! Lots of space, lockers, mirrors, bathrooms, etc... Everything is much better at UTA including the backstage staging area! At Will Rogers the staging area was cramped but at UTA there's lots of space for staging. They would have 3 or more dance groups practing their dance just off stage something you could never have done at Will Rogers. The only issue I see would be for Rebecca & Sydney - @ WR they would have dressing rooms right off stage for the quick changes they have to do. I don't remember seeing that at UTA but then again it's not something we used so maybe it's there and I just didn't see it.

[> Subject: Wasn't that gown like worth $28,000 and they got it for a bargain, $17,000. I thought they gave the design to Marshawns and Marshawns had Tony Bowls or someone make it? I know several hands were involved.

Photos-Saturday Night - Miss America Pageant

Miss America Pageant Competition

Jessica and Nicholle are ready to head up to the Planet Hollywood Theater for the Saturday night Miss America final competition.

Once inside the theater we grab a quick picture of them with the Miss America Stage in the background.

I was finally able to get a picture of Rebecca’s signs that they hung up inside the theater. They moved them from their original location in the balcony.

They had 17 former Miss America Titleholders on-stage Saturday night plus one judging and one assisting the auditors.

Rebecca’s on-stage introduction at Miss America on Saturday night.

And as seen from the TV monitors inside the theater.

Miss Indiana, Katie Stam’s on-stage introduction at Miss America on Saturday night.

And as seen from the TV monitors inside the theater. I think you’ll see Katie again tonight…

Here is Miss Arkansas, Ashlen Batson with her on-stage introduction.

And again from the TV monitor inside the theater.

Our special guest emcee, Mario Lopez has made his way to the stage and the girls are staying really cool.

And we go to our first commercial break awaiting the announcement of the Top 15 semi-finalist.

At this point we go to another commercial break and the remaining titleholders are sent to a seating area on stage right to wait for the next 11 semi-finalist to be called out to re-compete. Rebecca gives a thumbs-up to everybody as we wait for the results.

And the remaining 11 semi-finalist chosen by the judges are, Miss Michigan, Miss Delaware, Miss Arkansas, Miss Hawaii, Miss District of Columbia, Miss Iowa, Miss New York, Miss California, Miss Florida, Miss Kentucky, and Miss Tennessee. These 11 contestants plus the 4 contestants voted in by America will be the Top 15 semi-finalist that will re-compete tonight for the title of Miss America.

The remaining contestants are placed in a large seating area at stage right to watch the pageant.

Mario introduces Kristen as we get ready to begin the Miss America Finals on Saturday night.

The Top 12 re-compete in Evening Gown…

And then hurry off the stage to get ready for their Talent competition of which only 10 will compete as their names are called out and 2 will be eliminated.

Meanwhile on the other side of the stage all the contestants and chatting and hugging each other.

While waiting for the Top 12 to change into their Talent costumes, some of the Miss America National Princesses are interviewed. They were down in front of me so I shot this picture off of one of the TV monitors.

All of the Top 12 waits patiently on stage left for their name to be called out to perform their Talent tonight.

Miss District of Columbia I the first to perform her Talent tonight.

Miss Hawaii is also called on to perform her Talent on Saturday night.

Miss Indiana is excited to hear her name called out to perform her Talent.

Katie does an outstanding job of singing “Via Dolorosa”.

During a commercial break, Miss California warms up on stage.

Miss California is also called on to perform her Talent.

Your 10th and final contestant to be called out for Talent is Miss Michigan.

After Talent is completed the start interviewing he contestants over on stage right and Rebecca is one of the first ones they picked for an interview.

Everybody wave at your favorite person ladies…

It looks like Rebecca wants to say something else to everybody.

Your Top 10 come back out on stage for the next competition which is the On-Stage Question where the field will be reduced to the Top 7 contestants…

The Top 7 gather at stage left while Mario announces the next phase of competition.

While the contestants are doing a group hug, Mario turns to them and says, “Ladies, you have 2 minutes to get into your evening gowns and be back out of stage”.

At which point all their heads spin around and say “WHAT?... 2 MINUTES!!!

“We are so outta here” as they head back to the “Big Tent” behind the stage to change “QUICKLY…

Meanwhile all the other contestants who were released earlier to go change start to come back out on the stage.

And Rebecca is already in her place ready to go…

Kristen makes her final appearance as Miss America 2008.

It’s been a GREAT year Kristen… Thanks for all the memories…

Mario has the results and is about to call out the Runner-Ups and the Winner…

Miss Georgia is called out as the 1st Runner-Up.

Only 3 remain standing and only 1 will receive the Miss America crow and title. Who will it be??

ITS MISS INDIANA, KATIE STAM!!!

WAY TO GO KATIE!!!

I think she is very happy…

Next comes the new Miss America Banner…

And then the new Miss America crown…

Yes… She was surprised…

Katie’s first walk as Mss America…

Still in shock!!!

Yes Katie… The crown is still there and it’s real…

Finally the BIG group hugs from all the contestants, but Mario says we are still live on TV.

Katie is still in shock as she talks to Mario.

Lots of good-bye hugs going on right now… Good night from Planet Hollywood…

Part 3 - Photos from Vegas
Friday shopping excursion and sightseeing adventures in Vegas.

Friday morning begins with a trip to the Miss America “Shopping Extravaganza” at the Planet Hollywood Hotel.

While shopping at the Miss America Trade Show there arose such a clatter out in the hall that I rushed to see what was the matter where I found 32 “Teen Queens” all dressed in pink. These are just a few of the Teen State titleholders coming to the trade show for an autograph session today.

While inside the trade show gowns and swimsuits were flying off the racks to find the “perfect size and color” for next July. Here are Nicholle and Jordan in “matching material” gowns.

Sydney with Teen Tennessee and Teen Utah at the Teen State Titleholder’s autograph session on Friday afternoon at the trade show.

Teen crowns as far as the eye can see…

Meanwhile over at Regalia, measurements are being taken…

And new gown orders being taken for Jessica and Nicholle…

Nicholle tries on another really cute dress at Regalia.

Nicholle and Jessica with Carry Oneal and David Lane with Regalia. Thanks for all the help…

Nicholle with Teen Kansas, Teen Florida and Teen Delaware at the trade show.

After a HEAVY morning of shopping it’s time for some lunch at P. F. Changs.

After a late lunch/early dinner Jessica said she needed some makeup so guess where we went?

Jessica and Nicholle in front of the Planet Hollywood Hotel entrance.

Getting ready to head over to the Paris Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

Nichole and Jessica at the entrance to the Paris Hotel.

And under the Eiffel Tower…

Crossing over one of the Las Vegas Blvd. bridges going over to the Bellagio.

Inside the Bellagio heading back to some very expensive shops.

Jessica and Nicolle in front of the huge lake in front of the Bellagio Hotel.

OK ladies… Since you have never been to Vegas before or seen this show, WATCH CLOSELY and you will be amazed as we get ready to “Fly Me To The Moon”…

WOW!!! This is really COOL Mr. Jim…

Smile ladies and make this picture even prettier…

And we’ll finish off the Bellagio Fountain Show with a silhouette shot of Nicholle and Jessica against the fountains…

Jessica and Nicholle on the Las Vegas Strip…

And swinging on the entrance gate at the Bellagio Hotel.

And back in the Planet Hollywood Mall we find “Captain Jack Sparrow” and “Michael Jackson”.

And back in our Summer Bay Condo we give Nicholle and Jessica their pink Miss America blouses with a rhinestone crown on it. I think they liked them…

We get an early start Saturday morning and head back to the Miss America Trade Show at the Planet Hollywood Hotel.

Jessica got with Regalia again and sketched out some changes for her new evening gown.

Nicholle with Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, Taylor Fitch at the MA Trade Show.

And then went shopping for jewelry before we went to our next adventure in Vegas.

We end up at the Luxor Hotel and for those of you that have been with us before; you know what we did…

After our “Magic Experience” inside the Luxor Hotel we have a bite of lunch and grab another quick picture outside the Luxor while waiting for our car. We have to head back to our condo to get ready for the Miss America Finals because we have to be in our seats by 4:15.

1.CONGRATULATIONS SYDNEY! That is quite an honor.

2.Does anyone know how they select who is invited to perform? This is a first for Texas, correct?

3.(Las Vegas, Nevada) The Miss America Organization has selected six Miss America’s Outstanding Teen state representatives to perform during the competitions in Las Vegas, Nevada at the end of January.

Haley aspires to receive a masters and doctorate in fine arts in music and theatre from New York University and perform on Broadway.

The History of
Miss Teen Texas Performing at
Miss America Pageant

The 1st MAOT winner was Miss Teen Texas and she performed Ventriloquist Act one night and then she sang the National Anthem another night. That was the first year that MAOT was at Miss America Pageant and Meghan Miller was presented as the Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2005.
During the Miss America Television Show, Meghan was also introduced in Audience and singled out & announced with the TV camera's on her.
Meghan Miller won 2 Prelim Awards at MAOT. She won Talent the 1st night and Gown the second and placed in Top Ten and then Won the Title.

.
The second year, Kendall Morris played piano at an elegant dinner/cocktail party gathering during the Miss America Week. Kendall won two preliminary nights awards during MAOT.

*Note: We have the real photo of Kendall performing at the Ticketed Function at Miss America and it was not on a stage, but have not found the photo yet. No need to post to tell us it's the wrong photo. Thanks.

Left to Right: Miss Teen Texas Heather Harris 2005, Miss Teen Texas 2006 Kendall Morris, and Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2005 Meghan Miller.

.
Callie Thompson did not perform but attended Miss America Pageant. The second photo was shot in Las Vegas when Callie visited with Miss Texas Molly Hazlett after Evening Gown Competition.

..

This year Sidney Capello is singing. Sydney won 2 Prelim Awards at MAOT and placed in Top Ten.

VERY informative! Thanks for the history! It is wonderful that the MAO is embracing the teen pageant.

Commercial

Sydney was singing and then the voice over was talking about the Miss America Program coming up on the scheduled. It ran several times over the last few hours before the pageant.
It was nice to see them showing current footage. The other Ads were of last year's girls on stage and Kirsten being crowned. This was all current Prelim footage. It was really interesting that they would show a MAOT Teen and then the Contestants were shown in Opening Number. Very exciting to see Syndey featured when the Commercial opened, then the voice over her singing and she was still being shown. Then the last few seconds of the commercial spot, they flipped to Opening Number shots.

COMMENTS/Posts (movd here to Library)

1.WOW! Rebecca looks good! She is gonna do Texas proud! Good Luck Rebecca!

2.The thing that makes me the proudest about Rebecca on this show is that every single time they show her, she is gorgeous beautiful, and every time she speaks, she articulates herself so well...with intelligence and maturity. I bet her interview is bar-none, and well, we know her talent is incredible, so I think she'll make the top 10/15 no problem. We see all these other women, but thus far, no one has even touched Rebecca when they speak.

3.Rebecca's intelligence is shining through. I hope the judges appreciate just how smart and articulate she is. To me, she is the most impressive Miss Texas we've had in a long time. Not that the others weren't great, but this girl seems to have it all, with a ton of intelligence to boot. I just love her. Best of luck in Vegas.

4.Did you Tivo or tape the show? Slow it down during the commercial where there are a lot of gold sashes.

TLC's 2009 Miss America Pageant

Wins Cable's Saturday Night

Linwood, NJ - Discovery Communications-owned TLC and the Miss America Organization announced today that the Saturday night, Jan. 24 live telecast of the 2009 Miss America pageant drew 3.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

The show was the most-watched show on cable for the night among adults 18 to 49, women 18 to 49, adults 18 to 34 and women 18 to 34.

Sam Haskell, III, Chairman of the Board for the Miss America Organization stated, “After partnering with TLC for the last two years, we have been able to build our Miss America audience and reach new and younger demographics. We are thrilled with the results, and we have been able to successfully re-brand our Miss America image while continuing to expand the reach of our program.”

TLC and the 2009 Miss America Pageant ranked third among all television networks in adults 18 to 49, behind only Fox and CBS, according to the network.

Art McMaster, President and CEO of The Miss America Organization stated, “We are truly excited with the new direction of our Pageant telecast and to know that viewers across America are tuning in to witness the tradition of our Pageant and that iis being presented in a new and contemporary way.”

This year, Miss America 2009 Katie Stam will serve as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network and will work on her personal platform of “Promoting Community Service and Involvement,” across the country.

2009 MISS AMERICA "EVELYN AY SEMPIER

QUALITY OF LIFE AWARD" WINNERS ANNOUNCED

From left: Miss America Organization President and CEO, Art McMaster; Miss Alabama Amanda Tapley; Stacy Sempier, Miss America 1954 Evelyn Ay Sempier's daughter; Miss Kentucky Emily Cox; Miss America 1955 Lee Meriwether; and Miss Michigan Ashlee Baracy

Las Vegas, NV - January 22 -- This year's Evelyn Ay Sempier Quality of Life Award winner was announced today and the winner is Miss Kentucky Emily Cox . Emily was recognized for her work on her platform, "Uniquely Me - Promoting Self Esteem in Adolescent Girls" and she will receive a $6,000 scholarship. The announcement was made at Planet Hollywood during Thursday's Miss America press conference, and marks the last day of preliminary competition for the 2009 Miss America Pageant.

Through Emily's own struggle with issues of low self esteem, she came to the realization that regardless of socio-economic status, race, or academic ability, kids are constantly pressured to meet expectations they can't even define. With this in mind, Emily began work on her service project nearly two years ago. Her goal has been to promote a sense of self worth amongst young girls and boys so that they might realize the heights of life they aspire to. She has involved others by creating and implementing Self Esteem Workshops for kids in the classroom setting, Girl Scout troops and church groups. Through these workshops Emily has been able to reach approximately 27,829 young people in Kentucky and spread her message.

The first-runner up is Miss Michigan Ashlee Baracy whose personal platform issue is "Breast Cancer Awareness and Education". Ashlee is an advocate for breast cancer awareness and has been a caregiver for her mother who is a breast cancer survivor of five years. It has become her mission to create an online support network that went live on the Internet in 2007; she is a founder of BCDaughters.com which is an international website that serves as an outlet to support Breast Cancer victims. She has worked on fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society and has also become a legislative ambassador and has lobbied in DC for cancer research.

The second runner-up is Miss Alabama Amanda Tapley, whose personal platform is "Music For a Cure." Amanda worked with her brother to create a CD with some of her favorite piano pieces and all proceeds were donated to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She created a CD with a music software program and raised over $4,000 for their pediatric research. Amanda also performed a benefit with family members that raised another $13,000 for research. She has been able to support our national partner, Children's Miracle Network, and use that platform as an umbrella to her personal mission. Amanda continued to show her passion for helping children as she performed a unique event for CMN that raised over $8,000 for the Children's Hospital of Alabama. To date, Amanda has raised over $27,000 for both children's hospitals and continues to use her music for a cure.

This year, the newly renamed "Evelyn Ay Sempier Quality of Life Awards" were funded through the generosity of our Miss Americas. In honor of Miss America 1954 Evelyn Ay Sempier, the Miss America sisters funded three Quality of Life awards with special attention paid to depth of service, creativity of the project and the significant effects upon the lives of others.

Quality of Life Awards were introduced in 1988 to recognize contestants who excel in their commitment to community service. The awards are available to each of the 52 contestants competing for the title of Miss America. In order to be considered for the Quality of Life Award, contestants must have submitted an application describing their involvement with Children's Miracle Network, the national platform of the Miss America Organization, and their own personal platform issue.

An honorable mention goes to the remaining six finalists: Miss Hawaii Nicole Fox , whose platform is "The Adopt A College Program;" Miss Indiana Katie Stam, whose platform is "Super Saturday of Service;" Miss North Carolina Amanda Watson, whose platform is "Making ALS History, One Person At A Time;" Miss Rhode Island Francesa Simone, whose platform is "F.A.C.T - Families of Alzheimers Carrying the Torch;" and Miss Virginia Tara Wheeler, whose platform is Empowering America's Youth."

Be sure to watch as a new Miss America is crowned at the 2009 Miss America Pageant airing live on TLC, Saturday, January 24, at 8 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. Central. The 2009 Miss America Pageant will be tape delayed to air at 8 p.m. PST and 9 p.m. Mountain.

Winning the crown

Harris named 'Miss OCU'

By: Alaina Stevens

Oklahoma City University Magazine -Issue date: 12/3/08 Section: LifeStyles

Heather Harris's dream came true, and she said it is helping her grow as a person.

The vocal performance junior was crowned Miss OCU during the annual pageant Nov. 22. There were 11 contestants competing for the title this year.

"I'm so blessed and honored to be Miss OCU," Harris said. "It was a huge surprise.

"I was very happy, so happy I can't even express it. I'm still in awe about it."

As Miss OCU, Harris will receive three semesters of free tuition, as well as free room and board. The first runner up was Hailey Ford, music theater graduate.

Winning the title has helped Harris learn more about herself and grow as a person, she said. It also took a lot of dedication and hard work.

"I've been in the Miss America system for the past seven years, and by participating in the organization it has helped me grow and realize that whatever you want in life you have to work hard for it," she said.

At last year's competition Harris was first runner up to Molly Colvard, but it didn't deter her from her dream, she said.

"My dream was to become Miss OCU," Harris said. "I worked hard and believed that I could do it.

"Because of my willingness and my belief in myself, my dreams came true."

Harris's platform for the competition was bully harassment. She said she chose it for personal reasons.

"I was bullied as a young child," Harris said. "Throughout the time I was bullied I felt very alone. I kept to myself and was very insecure.

"Once I spoke up and got some help the bullying ceased and I became a stronger person."

It's been encouraging for her to speak out about bullying, Harris said. It also has helped her grow even more, she said.

The next stage for Harris is preparing for the Miss Oklahoma pageant, which is in summer 2009. To get ready Harris said she will work on staying fit and healthy, stay informed on current events, work on her interview skills, and look for a song to perform.

Despite the stresses of working toward another title sometimes you have to relax, Harris said.

"Through all of the staying healthy and fit you have to let go and have fun," she said. "You have to know that all that you're doing is your best."

For the new contestants and parents who are reading the message board this year and may not know MTO History -
Heather Harris was 1st Runner Up to Teen Texas the year that Meghan Miller won and went on
to win the first title of Miss America's Outstanding Teen. Heather Harris became Miss Teen Texas 2005.
