MiamiRock Star: "Chicken grease" not with standing, I can tell you a few facts about the late Jacob O. Meyer and his AOY Cult. First, it is not true that he ever went by "Sir, Jacob O. Meyer." He was, however, always addressed as "Elder" Meyer and he require people to stand whenever he entered or exited a room. Meyer touted the AOY as the "exclusive" source of truth and often said that there is no salvation outside of the AOY -- PERIOD! When ever some of his subordinates gave "sermonettes" (short messages before the, often very long, main sermon, their messages were full of praises for Jacob O. Meyer. It was not at all uncommon for "Elder" Meyer to be mentioned favorably or given adulation in a sermonette 3 or 4 times to mentioning Yahweh or Yahshua once. He surrounded himself with a small select group of henchmen. They would surround him like secret service aganets surround the president after each Sabbath service as he walked toward the rear of the building. His henchmen would often strike up the seemingly most innocent conversation or ask seemingly innocent questions of the members. the purpose of the questions or conversations was to test the loyalty of individual members or to find out if there was "...sin in their lives." When ever any thing went wrong, for example, with the WMLK shortwave station, Meyer (and McAvin as well) would blame the problem on "sin in the congregation." During a Sabbath meeting, Meyer would ask "Who is it -- who has the sin in their life that is bringing a curse and causing problems?" McAvin would get behind the pulpit, waggle his finger at the congregation, and proclaim, "Your sins will find you out." If a person was deemed "guilty" of some misdeed, real or imagined, McAvin would often say in a loud, bombastic voice, "You'll deal with me!" McAvin was fond of making threats of physical violence against certain members, especially younger members for almost any reason, sometimes because he simply didn't like the way a young man might wear his hat, or might walk around wearing sunglasses.
By the way, almost evey Sabbath Jacob O's announcements would extend to 15 or more minutes and his opening prayer was equally long, not to mention a sermon lasting an hour and a half or more. Someone said there is no incest in the AOY. I don't know if this is true or not, but Rachel Meyer claimed she was forced to have sexual relations with two of her brothers, one of whom is a convicted sex offender and listed on the Wisconsin sex offender Website. And of coure, McAvin's youngest daughter claims that she too was molested by her father. So inshort, and in my personal opinion, the AOY at Bethel was and continues to be nothing more than a crass dictatorship that promotes fear and loathing rather than the fruits of the Holy Spirit - Gal. 5:22. As for the rest, judge for yourself.
