Here is what I would look for in the order of importance : RAM : 2GB minimum O/S : Windows Vista Premium (not Basic) HARD DRIVE : 250GB minimum PROCESSOR : Dual Core 2.0 minimum WIRELESS : includes the new type 'N' DISPLAY : depends on portability required 16" to 17" for around the house You should be able to find this for $700 before taxes OPTIONAL : built in Card Reader built in Web Cam with Microphone Hope this helps.
