Hi Everyone, just wanted to let you guys know that I've been attending EKG classes for orientation and I had a test today on it and I pass. I know Professor D will be so happy because he did a lecture on EKG at Lehman College. Hmmm, I didn't start nights yet...still doing 8 hrs a day. This week I have class and I am only on the unit on Friday. Will keep you guys posted on everything. Thanks Melanie, your words are so encouraging.

By the way, Congrats Eric!!!! Well, I am still on orientation but the first day of orientation will take place in cronin auditorium on the 10th floor. On the first day they will explain infection control, security, privacy etc. Then the second day is nursing orientation. You will be in class for nursing orientation they will tell you where and when to meet. The in class nursing orientation is a week. For that whole week you will be learning documentations, IVs, PCA, pain, safe medication administration, Accucheck, blood bank etc. By the ending of the week they will give you your schedule. Some people still have class and others are on the unit. They start you out with 8 hours day shift. First week on the unit you will be doing FOCUS notes on two patients(read up on that if you're not familiar), vital signs, and flow sheets. You will also shadow your preceptor.
Will let you know how my second week on the unit goes.

FYI: Focus Notes touch on DATA, ACTION, RESPONSE.
