I happen to agree with you. And I'm a girl.
I, for one, don't think that the team should be responsible for putting up anyone's girlfriend or fiance. If the couple is that interested in her living with him, he should have to get his own place or supplement her portion of the rent and utilities out of his or her own pocket. I don't have a problem with the ladies living here with their 'serious' boyfriends or fiances, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the team, at all.
I also don't agree that they should be invited to everything that the team does. Every event that this team 'throws' comes with a standing invitation to all the girlfriends. If we're going to expect professionalism from the guys, I think we should definitely expect it from their tag-alongs, and many of those girls are latched onto their 'man' like an infant. This doesn't really make the player seem very approachable to his fans.
WIVES are a different story. That's not who I'm talking about. And if you look at the maturity level and professional posture of the wives, as opposed to the girlfriends, there's a clear difference. I guess that step makes them assume that their husband is coming home every night, whereas the girlfriends have to keep two trained eyes on their fella at every minute.
I will say, though, in the interest of fairness, that there are other issues that are causing these guys to be a weak unit. The significant others can't be held wholly responsible. But I do think that they are given far too many of the benefits that should be limited to players only.
