For a while Max didn't say anything. Call it a delayed reaction, but he was only now beginning to feel the "results" of the night (for lack of a better word), emotionally as well as physically, and had since given up groping around blindly for a topic of conversation. He could feel a dull throbbing somewhere inside his head- although it was small enough to simply let it be, it was just big enough to be mildly irritating.
His arm finally found its way around Midori's shoulders, and the tension inside him he hadn't noticed before seemed to suddenly just unwind itself as he heard her softly purring, and he exhaled. It was a curiously comforting sound. He looked down at her meekly as she moved her head onto his chest, and the throbbing in his head seemed to waver off into the distant yonder. He knew tomorrow he was going to feel like hell. And probably look it, too, if he didn't already. Max blinked a couple of times, trying to find some means of restoring order in the flurry of emotions in his mind; he hadn't thought it was possible to feel exhausted, bored and freaked out all at the same time.
"Thank you Max."
"Don' mention it." G*d, he made that sound mundane. Like she was thanking him for remembering to buy the groceries on the way home, or something. Perhaps he ought to shut up before he could do or say anything else that didn't quite fit the scenario. Urgh, awkward silence, awkward silence! Or was it really that awkward? Maybe not, maybe he was only making it awkward for himself. He did that often. "You relatively ok?" it was sort of a standard end-of-tragic-event question, and he knew he'd already asked her before, but that had maybe been a bit too soon, so he figured he'd just ask her again. For the sake of making noise. And of course to find out her current state of well-being, or lack thereof, or whatever. Urgh. Stop thinking.
o o c // omfg that was bad. I was just listening to the Parlotone's song "I'll Be There", it's cute, lol. Reminds me of these two. Don't ask why. o-0
