The Cats, followed their namesake and traded in senior players for a push at the flag for the last 2-3 years - which almost worked nearly every year. Probably the best performing team in finals over the last 7 years.

But because of that I don't think we've seen the full ramifications yet. It's left Ross with a very weak team in terms of keeper league value, the team will still score decently (compared to the bottom of the ladder) for a year or two, avoiding the good draft picks then more players will retire, lose scoring potential etc.

Unless Ross makes some amazing trades, in 2-3 years we will see the full impact and it will be a long climb back in to the pack. I'm not sure that now is the time for all of the compensation picks, but maybe as players retire there can be some kind of compo.

If the team still had the same coach I'd say too bad, but I'm all for helping out where we can.
