For me it comes down to team balance over the playing status of who was named.

If your 18 roles on the field are able to be filled by your 22 players named according to the Team Balance sheet on Sheets, I don't care who you name. If a player who is excess to the 18 being filled misses, then 1st emergency available comes in.

If a player misses who was NEVER selected in their AFL sides final 22, and based on your 1st available emergency, you still can't fill all 18 roles, you get a '0'.

If a player is named in their AFL final 22 and does not end up playing, then the 1st available emergency plays.
