She held back the laughter that sparked in her eyes. “Play nice?” She wasn’t mocking the other and her smile did not suggest any ill intent. She was merely amused by the idea of shifters playing nice. Did anyone ever really play nice? Weren’t best friends still in competition for better grades and better boyfriends? “I’m sure they will play nice.” She put her book down beside her. “If they won’t, I will.” It was the first sign of offered friendship that either had displayed. They had tiptoed around each other sniffing tails but now Lyla gave that little bark of playfulness that their situation had been lacking. “Why don’t we get dinner?
