He had barely enough time to push his arms back behind him to catch himself against the stucco encrusted wall. He moved then, immediately, to catch the falling Karina as she was pushed to him. He gathered her battered form in his arms and pulled her in close. He took a single thumb and wiped it across her lips to remove any traces of Marcius. His eyes burned into the elder’s back with such vigor that Telcoltl hoped he ignited. He knew he had made a mistake but his rushed and frantic attempts were similar to those of a overly caged dog. He was bored. He was reckless. He didn’t make another sound but his lungs filled and empty with a useless effort. He kissed the female’s forhead again, making sure Marcius saw, and whispered. “He can’t hurt you tonight.”
