Author: Bel'Khalyn & Ironblade
Subject: Ironblade stops...
In reply to: Kulzin 's message, "He brushes off his pants sheepishly..." on 17:46:40 05/18/01 Fri

..abruptly, digging in her ironshod hooves. She decided to wuit listening to the human on her back, instead following the hand signals given by the sword instructor. She stops, turns, wheels, rears, bucks, takes off, anything she can think of. Sometimes she runs quickly, sometimes just keeping a rough trot or an unsteady canter, attained by switching leads with her front feet but not her back (it is possible to do that, though fairly uncomfortable and equally interesting, they can be on the left lead in front and right lead in back. Satisfied Kulzin is staying on adequately, she gives the pair a rest, Ironblade giving Kulzin a withering look for his interesting and sometimes inept cues.

Bel'Khalyn urges the horse she is mounted upon (Hellion?) into a quick gallop, urging the horse on with voice and hand. Capitulating, the horse responds a bit more readily to her cues, and is soon sweaty with exertion. She pulls up, dismounting, stretching stiff joints. She hands Hellion?'s reins to Kulzin, placing a jousting saddle upon the horse's back, and upon Ironblade's. (A jousting saddle, in case you haven't seen one, has an exceptionally high pommel and cantle, often reaching past the knight's waist. The stirrups are way, way long, leaving the knight in practically a standing position on their horse, feet forward and knees locked, legs extended. Obviously, this precludes any two-point or hand galloping, but this position is necessary for proper jousting. Otherwise, you're on your arse... The lance is 'couched' -seated- on the right side, reins held in the left hand, lance in the right, and the lance crosses over the horse's neck to come in contact with the opponent on the left side of the knight's horse. Shields are possibly held in the left hand, but not always. Seen the movie 'A Knight's Tale'? The jousting is pretty accurate....). Bel'Khalyn re-bridles Ironblade, leaving the mare to stand at ease while she tends to Kulzin.

(ooc: I have Ironblade as a kind of interesting horse... if you've ever read the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey (or even if you haven't,) Ironblade is modeled aftr a Shin'ai'in battlemare, horses that aren't entirely horses. They are exceptionally smart, impeccably trained, and exceedingly ugly. They have proper bone and structre for battle, however, and are trained to follow their rider -and only their rider-'s commands in the form of voice or hand signals. These horses can guard, fight, etc., at their master's request. Others may ride them only with their rider's permision. Otherwise, the person intending to ride will end up with broken bones... or worse. .... just some background on the mare...)
