Subject: ABUSE

In this section we will discuss why people become entangled in sexual sin. Some of the most common reasons are sexual abuse, learned behaviors, and "the missing link". These are all legitimate reasons people have in one way or another given to me over the years that I have been involved in Internet ministry. I myself at one time used these same reasoning's to continue a pattern of sin. Jesus Christ breaks the yoke of sin, meaning the sin itself and everything attached to it. I will discuss how to overcome the chains of abuse, the conversion of learned behaviors, and the secret of "the missing link"

Allowing Abuse To Fade

In many of the conversations that I have had with people concerning their sexual sins, sexual abuse in their past comes to light. They were either molested, raped, or shown materials by an adult on repeated occasions. The abuse has become the driving force behind the reasoning for sexual sin in their lives. This reasoning in their minds adds legitimacy to their continued pursuit of sin. What this red light shows me is that this person has never allowed God to heal them from past abuse. The abuse was a seed that was planted and as life continued, the seed grew and manifested itself into many different but similar ways such as sexual sin, drug abuse, and from crisis to crisis. The abuse has become a powerful weapon that Satan is using to keep these people in bondage to many sins. You may be surprised to know that most of the people I talk to are indeed professed Christians who are struggling with two different lives. I want to show you what I call "the ladder of abuse". Study this ladder and see where you are at.

Ladder of ABUSE

___Helping Others

___Forgiveness

___Healing

--------------INTERVENTION LINE (God)

*****ABUSE

___Hurt

___Anger/Resentment

___Sin

I created this ladder of abuse to show that people who have been abused and are still struggling with sexual sin more times than not are below the abuse line. They are operating either out of hurt, anger, or both. So the main problem these people are facing is NOT the actual sinning through sexual impurity. The problem is the that abuse they have suffered in their lives has not been surrendered to God for healing. Most people who become alcoholics are really using alcohol to mask a bigger problem that has never been properly dealt with. I don't want to go any further until we discuss overcoming the abuse. The past abuse has been allowed to influence your behaviors and actions for far too long.
The Abuse has modified your behaviors, making life destructive for you. To overcome the "mind set" of abuse, you need to realize the following:

1- Life is not about what you THINK

2- Life is not about what you FEEL

3- Life is about what you DO

You cannot base your life living just on thoughts and feelings. It is okay and justified to have feelings of hurt because you were wronged or abused. It is not okay to allow your feelings to continue to motivate your life. These thoughts and feelings begin to drown the abused victim and systematically in an adverse way effects their life. I want to give you some scriptural insight on this matter.

Read the following passage: Psalms 42 chapter

1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. 7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. 8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. 9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? 10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God? 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
The scripture above reveals some marvelous truths about the human mindset. David, who wrote this Psalm admits many times throughout that he is downcast or sad. His enemies have made life very difficult for him to endure. But notice where his focus keeps shifting. His hope is in the Lord. His praises are to the Lord. David has every justified reason to be sad but his sadness or troubles are not allowed to steer him away from the path of God. David realizes that it is not all about how he feels or what he thinks about his enemy. David knows that it is a matter of what he does. When the memories of your past come knocking at your door, realize that this is your enemy. The enemy is trying to come against you and even lead you into sin. Don't allow it! keep your hope in the Lord and praise Him.
