I was paying about $10.50 per pack at about that time. That's about a 400 percent increase on today's prices. I remember quite distinctively about that. Being a teenage student in highschool I had to watch my spending. I had a job on Saturdays in a fashion shop called Sportsgirl. The wages weren't much and we received bonuses for sales targets we had to meet. My mum subsidized my cigarette money. Still I had to limit my smoking. I always felt embarrassed when I went to parties from age 15 because some kids took a bottle of Vodka or Jim Beam and my parents wouldn't buy me alcohol. They did however give me an extra pack of cigarettes to take and I used to skimp, I brought my of the extra pack home with me
