I can imagine near 30 people smoking in the backyard would create that atmosphere. It only takes one to light a ciggie and it starts a chain reaction. How many times, anywhere do we see someone lighting up and we find ourselves doing the same.

What age do you think it's appropriate for kids to smoke. I encouraged my son at age 8 just by letting him know I have no objection if he smokes. he's now 11. I did the same with my daughters who are now 7 and 9. They started younger at 6. The youngest is my 4 year old son but that's too young in my humble opinion. I'm merely asking the question. Then there is the downside, kids have no concept that they are forbidden to smoke in public. I have experienced that when my kids ask for a ciggie when we're out. Long before I started posting here a little girl aged probably around 5 asked her mum for a ciggie when a girlfriend and I were having coffee at a coffee lounge. She whispered in her mum's ear but loud enough for us and others to hear. I thought it was so sweet. Her mum said we're leaving shortly honey. She went bright red, looked at us and I couldn't help saying it's OK.
