Subject: Coaching dancers

Just wondering what the rules are about coaching when a dancer is on stage. At worlds I seen 2 sisters coaching there younger sister when she was on stage. Telling her exactly what to do as she dancd. I recorded them doing it when it got to the set dance hall. The wee one went on to win the worlds then for a 2nd time. They did the same the year before. I’ve seen there teachers do it for their daughter too so I’m wondering is this the school telling them to do this? Surely this cant be in the rules. Thinking the video should be shared with org but not sure if it’s in the rules. Anyone?

It’s against the rules to record a child when they are dancing so you have actually broke the rules and should be reported to the org (NT) -- Also why are you recording children without consent. Concerning and should be reported for child protection, Thu, Jun 06 2024, 16:56:16

Yes it is against the rules. Plain and simple it is against the rules to coach a dancer on stage at any competition never mind worlds for god sake. The sisters in question (not the teachers) aren’t children either both over 16 so children weren’t recorded so don’t worry about everyone trying to use that to scare you out of speaking up. From what I see they have very good interaction with their dancers to be fair. I notice at feises all their dancers both young and old approach these teachers before going on stage. I think this shows great respect. The word ‘vile’ is strong. I’m sure if you feel so strongly about what they do that annoys you/effects you so much then perhaps you could speak to them at next feis and try and resolve the issue. - Everyone is entitled to their opinions, I have my reasons for my opinions of these 2 teachers but again that’s not what this post is about it’s about coaching dancers I simply said it doesn’t suprise me coming from these teachers. - Watch social media and interactions at a feis and you will see without reading boy who the favourites are . Most parents get blanked and their children the same . That is why we left . We were not the only ones to go.     - Judge a school not just this school by the loyalty of older dancers and their eagerness to stay . Porter school have on photos and Ithere are some dancers I have never seen before at a feis and we go to them all . They seem to have only one recognisable older dancer and years ago they had a good few . They do seem to have a few younger ones from schools that have closed .
