Subject: Answered inside as it’s long but posting from North is better
In reply to: . 's message, "Advice for posting dress to USA from north please? Which postal service? Insurance cover? Was there customs charge? Thank you" on Wed, Sep 25 2024, 21:28:16

As long as you post from Northern Ireland u can insure and declare customs seperately

You will get a customs declaration form when you go to the post office, it will ask u the details

Fill the form out as a dress, 2nd hand, a gift valued at £300.

Then you just need to ask the post office cashier to insure to what ever value u want. So like £1000, £1200 or whatever it is. The custom form and insurance are separate and £300 is the maximum to declare for customs to avoid the buyer having to pay tax at the other end. The insurance is separate from Customs. I’ve sold 4 dresses this way never had a bother.

Postage is in around £90 no insurance or £120 with insurance would definitely recommend insuring it and for full value.
