Never got it bare, but I had to drop trou to get it on the underwear as I got older. For my dad, it added to the formality of the 'event'. There was a process to the punishment that was followed each and every time. My brother and me knew what to expect. There was the walk downstairs, the lecture, dad removing his belt, us dropping trou and bending over the couch, etc. Let's face it, the belt hurts and it doesn't matter that much if pants are up or pants or down - there was a definite feeling of bruised ego dropping trou to get the belt.

My mom almost always spanks bare. She says it is more for our safety than anything, she can know how hard she is hitting so that she knows she isn't hitting too soft or too hard, she has more control.

I never really knew that spankings (other than paddlings at school) were ever really done any way other than bare, but we might have a skewed perspective because my mom does the spanking and 1) it is all daughters, so no gender awkwardness & 2) my mom has a more relaxed view on nudity than most americans because she was raised in Spain. Well not really more relaxed, just different definition....breasts and bottoms aren't really considered "naked" parts so much to her, its just the private areas that are, well, private.
