Yes, we had the same thing here in the US. In the 50's and 60's there were a lot of girdle manufacturers and nearly all the women wore girdles. There were girdle manufacturers for men but not very popular. Girdles for women were oriented around the bottom and hips. Girdle for men were oriented around the waist. I have a few of those old girdles for men but they are just waist nippers used to suck in the beer gut. There were so many girdle options you could get whatever you needed and decide how firm you wanted one, no need to double up. In the 1980's I started wearing girdles regularly. Had the Playtex double diamond to start, the 18Hour fleeced rubber and finally the 'I can't believe it a girdle' girdle. Really didn't need to double up on these because they were extremely firm. Still have the Playtex girdles and they are in excellent condition. I usually wear them for social events and on weekends. Today, I'm almost exclusive Rago with a few Custom Maid's that I really enjoy
