I recently came down with a terrible case of poison ivy,the itching became so bad that I couldn't sleep at night.
I eventually went to the emergency room as we don't have urgent care facilities, once I was in the room after triage, the nurse pulls out a gown and asks I undress to my briefs and put it on.
The Dr examined me,then prescribed a steroid cream, and ordered a Solumedrol shot which he told me would have to go in my butt, then left the room.Shortly after he left, the nurse entered the room with the prescription and the Solumedrol shot.
After going over the Dr's orders with me,she told me she had a shot for me and it would have to go in my butt,as it was too large to be given in my arm,2 1/2cc of Solumedrol, she asked me to stand up and completely remove my briefs and lay them on the chair with the rest of my clothes.I asked her why my briefs couldn't just be lowered in the back slightly for the shot rather than taking them completely off,she said it was because the Solumedrol shot can be very painful, and things could become messy if I left my briefs on,only lowering them in back and leaving them up in front.
I never did ask her what she meant by things becoming messy, but, the Solumedrol shot did indeed hurt and burn like crazy while she was pushing the medicine in.
Does anyone know what she meant by things becoming messy, and is it standard procedure for the briefs to be completely removed for a Solumedrol shot in the butt?
