Tim,
Your comment about shots in hospitals took me back to Christmas Eve about 12 years ago after my cat bit my hand on a Sunday morning. By that evening, my arm was a brilliant red from my fingers up to halfway up my upper arm. The next day Monday, was Christmas Eve and we were in the doctor's office. His initial decision was to send me to the hospital to be admitted so they could give me an IV drip to administer the antibiotic treatment. I was a newlywed (5 weeks) & I insisted that the doctor offer a treatment alternative that did not include hospitalization. He finally did, telling him to "drop your drawers and get a good grip on that (exam) table." My wife, a nurse, saw the injection syringe carried in by the clinic nurse. My wife's 'Oh No' told me all I needed to know. The soreness and discomfort of my backside lasted about five days, accompanied by the discomfort of the antibiotic-induced diarrhea. In hindsight, I would make the same request again. A 'sore ass' is preferable to being alone on Christmas Day. During military service, I spent enough Christmas Days alone (six of them overseas) to know.
