Hi Mandi,
I would not downplay the pain of an antibiotic shot. Nor would I believe you should get 3 days worth. Being that you don't have Strep or some other deadly illness, 1 would be plenty. Antibiotic shots have very thick serium which requires a large needle. They are injected into the muscle for slow release once inside you. So 1 would surfice. I would also think that unless you are super tiny, you won't be over anyones lap. They also hurt for much longer then an hour. Expect to be limping when you walk out and expect it to hurt for at least a day, if not a few days. You have to decide whether that is worth it. If the shot is Bicillin, that will hurt even more - much more. Even if they add anesthetic, it takes time for the anesthetic to work. The medicine will certainly hurt first. I have gotten many antibiotic shots throughout life and trust me, you may regret the decision. Also, if all you have is a virus, it will have little affect. So I would let the doctor give you his opinion even if you do suggest it. The needle is large so it will hurt when it goes in and the medicine burns and will burn for quite awhile. You can keep your toes inward, bury your head, sing Kumbaya or think of sheep, but when that medicine goes in, you will find out what pain is - trust me...
May I ask how old you are and what State you're in?
This is just my experience and I wouldn't listen to anyone who says it won't hurt much or for long. It does..A LOT!
Tim
