(we usually got the newer needles While they were sharp) Penicillin was over used in those days & we got many shots of it. When doc came by he would say "shorts & socks only" & we ran to our room & got ready for the exam. If we needed a shot we would lay on our beds with our shorts down & he would take the syringes out of the sterilizer box which had been on the stove & was steaming hot & put the 2" needles on them & fill them while we watched. He would then slap your butt hard, wipe the area with alcohol & stab the needle in. I was always first as I was the oldest.
